It was really nice. Alex brought his homebrew beer, and it was really delicious. These are the first two prints we have finished. The left one is the Calabi Yau surface David has wanted to print. Alex was really good at removing supports. I just spray painted with acyrlic overcoat. The right one is a… Read More »
I opened my old trusty Mac Book Pro “Gravitas, what gravitas?” (late 2012 10,1 retina 15″) to upgrade its SSD to 1TB. It was running very noisy for a long time, and accidentally I discovered the reason! The fins of the cooling grid connecting to fans were almost totally blocked by dust balls (see upper… Read More »
Fusion 360 is free, and handy if you want to make engineering objects. Proved to be really difficult for other things. First, we need the radius of a simplex thin lens of f=4cm. The refraction index of the clear resin is close to 1.5. There is a handy calculator in Hyperphysics for the Lens-Maker’s formula… Read More »
Meshmixer is a great free tool from Autocad. I used photoshop 3D extrude to get a nice 3D mesh of my name with an acceptable font. I exported it as STL under 3D print menu. I aligned the imported STL using edit->transform, so that it coincides with the planes I usually work (it is not… Read More »

When using Dremel, grit starts flying around. Grit is not something you want to have in your lungs. It will settle there for lifetime and will cause problems. ALWAYS WEAR MASK and GLASSES WHEN USING DREMEL!
This one is intended for Isabel as a housewarming gift. She requested something with an anatomically correct heart. Printed with 0.025 mm layer step size using clear resin v2. Inside is filled afterwards with the same resin+acyrlic paint, then cured under the sun. When the model is this small, I think 0.025 mm layer step… Read More »
5CB is a common nematic liquid crystal. I printed this decoration for a friend working in the field. The channels are quite wide in order to accommodate the EL tubes. Due to purely vertical orientation, a lot of lateral scanlines appear. The shape made it really difficult to sand the details. I applied matte acrylic… Read More »
